Wildlife Viewing in the Smokies

The Great Smoky Mountains are home to an incredible variety of wildlife, and a scenic drive can be just as rewarding as a hike. Explore the 11-mile loop through Cades Cove for opportunities to spot deer, wild turkeys, bears, and other native animals, or head to Cataloochee Valley for one of the area’s best chances to see elk. Early mornings and dusk are typically the best times for wildlife viewing, when animals are most active.
